Why Dean Started Coaching

Dean realized that if he wanted his staff and leaders to grow, he needed to lead by example. How could he expect them to be coached if he wasn’t willing to be in coaching himself?

Facing a challenging market, Dean began to wonder: what if his competitors were receiving coaching, and he wasn’t? The thought was daunting.

He had many of the same objections as most people as he wondered if he had enough time or money to invest into coaching, but came to realize the deeper resistance was a fear of change and being held accountable.

One of his top salespeople, coached by Southwestern Consulting, had previously left an industry-specific coaching program, saying, ”I’ve found something better.” Dean brought that coach in to meet with his team and never looked back.

Dean’s Coaching Journey

During a tough period in his industry, Dean questioned if his confidence was tied to favorable conditions, like low interest rates and a booming housing market. His coach helped him see that true confidence isn’t conditional; it’s found in his actions and consistency. Confidence, Dean learned, travels with you through all market conditions.

His relationship with his coach is transparent and vulnerable; whether it’s about personal or professional challenges, Dean can openly discuss anything. His coach provides a fresh perspective and helps him consider new approaches. The coaching experience is deeply caring, prioritizing Dean as a person, not just a client.

As he puts it, ”You don’t want to compete with someone who’s being coached by Southwestern Consulting, and you’re not. Business is difficult enough.”

Dean’s Results

Through coaching, Dean has uncovered his core purpose: to encourage people to live into a new set of possibilities every day. He has also:

  • Improved as a coach for his own team members.
  • Developed increased empathy for others.
  • Gained tools to support the most important people in his life.

“[Coaching is] a tremendous resource; I can’t imagine giving it up in any season of my life.”
